About Nexaline

Nexaline is an informational website about antivirus for home computers, written for readers in New Zealand. It is published by BATI ENERGIA and funded by affiliate commission. This page explains who is responsible for it, how it decides what to cover, and where its limits are.

Who publishes this site

Nexaline is published by:

BATI ENERGIA

Content is prepared by the BATI ENERGIA editorial team. Nexaline is not the website of any software vendor, and it is not a news publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Avast or any other company whose products it mentions.

What the site is for

The site sets out to answer the practical questions a household in New Zealand is likely to have about desktop antivirus: whether they need it, how to compare products, how to install one safely, how to recognise fake security warnings, and what their consumer rights are when buying a subscription. The general guides are written to be useful whether or not a reader buys anything, and several of them conclude that many people may not need to.

How the site is funded

Nexaline earns money in one way: affiliate commission. Some links on the site go to the website of Avast. When a reader follows one of those links and creates and activates an account, the vendor pays BATI ENERGIA a commission through an affiliate network. Readers pay nothing extra. The site carries no display advertising, sells no products of its own, and accepts no payment for placing content. The affiliate disclosure sets out the arrangement in full.

How coverage is decided

Editorial method

  1. Product coverage is limited to products the publisher has a commercial relationship with. At present that is one product, Avast. The site does not claim to survey the whole market and does not rank products.
  2. Product claims are limited to what the vendor states. Statements about Avast come only from the product description supplied through the affiliate network. Where that description is silent, the site says the information is not stated and directs readers to the vendor's own pages.
  3. General guidance is chosen by reader usefulness. The guides cover the questions a household is likely to ask, in the order those questions usually arise: first whether protection is needed at all, then how to choose, install and manage it.
  4. General facts are linked to their sources. Where a guide refers to a law, a regulator or a technical fact, it links to the public body or organisation that publishes it. Where no primary source can be linked, the point is written as general guidance.
  5. Commission does not decide conclusions. The general guides would read the same if the affiliate links were removed. Built-in protection and no-charge alternatives are described fairly, even though the site earns nothing from them.

What this site does not do

Independent sources this site relies on

Nexaline links to public bodies and independent organisations wherever their guidance is relevant. The main ones are the National Cyber Security Centre and its consumer site Own Your Online, Netsafe, Consumer Protection, the Commerce Commission and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. For product testing, the site refers to AV-TEST and AV-Comparatives. None of these organisations has reviewed or endorsed this site.

Reviews and corrections

Each page is checked against its sources when it is published and when the site is reviewed. The date of the most recent review is shown at the foot of every page. If you notice an error, an out-of-date link or a statement that is not supported by its source, please email info@nexaline.online. Corrections are made to the page itself.

Language and audience

The site is written in New Zealand and Australian English for readers in New Zealand. Where money is mentioned, it refers to New Zealand dollars. Laws and agencies named on the site are those of New Zealand unless stated otherwise.
